Re: Bitcoin ETF

No. None. The FSA has also not hinted to allowing any listings. Thanks. Any idea about why? The FSA is conservative and is looking to protect investors. The SEC was looking to do the same but was forced by the courts to allow an ETF. I wonder why a bitcoin ETF is considered so dangerous we need to ...

Re: Bitcoin ETF

Are there any brokers in Japan that allow buying of Bitcoin ETFs? On Interactive Brokers, they seem to be off limit to Japanese residents. I don't want to buy Bitcoin itself because tax on any profits is too high. No. None. The FSA has also not hinted to allowing any listings. Thanks. Any idea abou...

ETFs are usually taxed at the same rate as stocks. Crypto is taxed as income.

Re: Inheritance dispute

I have no experience with this but I do know there's a form you can fill out to cancel the adoption 離縁届. Apparently adopting your wife's child then divorcing is such a common thing that people do it enough for there to be blogs about it. This has an article about this situation: https://souzoku.vbe...

Re: Inheritance dispute

I have an adopted son who has come of age. Best to check with a lawyer if in doubt, but... did you formally adopt him (養子縁組)? I was told by our ward office that non-Japanese citizens could not do this in Japan, but instead would have to do so in their country of nationality -was looking into adopti...

Re: Inheritance dispute

Commiserations to the person involved in this dispute as it sounds a truly horrific experience but thanks to all for an informative discussion which may have ramifications I had never previously considered. It has made me wonder about my situation in regards to the iryubun previously mentioned. I ha...

Two factor authentification on overseas accounts

I wonder if there is a way to set up two factor authentication for accounts in UK and use while in Japan. Can I just get a UK sim and plug in my phone when I need to do the authentification?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Overseas ATM card

Thank goodness I had tossed my Prestia Global Pass Visa/Debit card into my backpack. It works flawlessly for contactless payments and it is approved in less than a second. Amazing that a Japanese bank managed to get integrated into this system. What is it about the Presita Global Pass that's better...

Re: Overseas ATM card

Prestia (ex-Citibank) Global Pass https://www.smbctb.co.jp/en/product/globalpass/ I second this recommendation! I'm currently in London for the first time since before the pandemic and it appears that almost every place is completely cashless now. The 200 GBP I had converted for spending money prio...
