Re: First year with IBKR - dividends & taxes

Tkydon, thank you for clearing up all those points. It is extremely helpful. From my initial research, I had assumed that 配当 was for individual 株式 and 分配金 was for 投資信託. After some more looking around, I realize that ETFs are considered 上場投資信託 and their dividends are 配当 as you mentioned. Took a bit o...

Re: First year with IBKR - dividends & taxes

Just received the 1099 and other tax documents from IBKR today. Everything looks pretty clear. Only thing I realized (that wasn't clear from the annual report I ran for 2022) was that some of the dividends were partially withheld by IBKR. The 1099 makes it clear how much the gross, tax, and net amou...

Re: First year with IBKR - dividends & taxes

Okay, I think I have made some good progress on calculating the tax-related items for IBKR. I will definitely keep a list going monthly as that will be much easier to do along the way rather than once at the end of the year. A couple questions that have come up. a) I used the MUFJ link provided by T...

Re: First year with IBKR - dividends & taxes

Thank you everybody for the detailed responses. It is hugely appreciated. Although the amounts are still small (for now, hopefully) after my first year, I'm a bit nervous going in for my first round of reporting. Hoping to get it right the first few times so when the figures are more complicated, I ...

First year with IBKR - dividends & taxes

Thanks to everybody's help and advice about a year ago, I got running with Interactive Brokers for the first time in 2022. Wasn't great timing with everything that has happened in the world, but I am in it for the long-run, so not worried. :) In the past, I have always done by Japan tax return by my...

FX-related taxes on overseas investments

Hi everybody. Hope you are enjoying the 3-day weekend. I saw a couple threads on Reddit recently about taxes on FX gain. https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanFinance/comments/vz8sps/i_have_a_large_capital_outside_of_japan_would_it/ https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanFinance/comments/u9akd5/guide_to_the_taxation...

Re: Condo board of directors / 理事会

I sit on mine. This is...uneventful. If you have ever worked in a big Japanese company with a lot of meetings then you are qualified. We rely a lot on the management company (in our case Tokyu) for most of the important stuff, have long discussion about prioritizing what upgrade and fixing need to ...

Condo board of directors / 理事会

I am curious if anybody has experience sitting on the board of directors / 理事会 for the condo they are living in. Any tips? Good or bad experiences?

Re: Hypothetical question: How much would you be willing to pay?

I do not really look for fancy perks in the building management fees, but I (currently) have peace of mind and no issues with the price since I get: -Better security compared to a house. Anybody with ill intent would have to get through reception (a person and a locked door), find my room, then get ...
