Re: Rakuten new tsumitate nisa setup date
I'm a little confused. If I wanted to max the 1.2M in the Tsumitate portion (NISAつみたて投資枠), can I manually make a purchase for an eligible fund on Jan 1st? Or, do I explicitly need to setup an automatic monthly purchase to make any investments in the Tsumitate portion? If an automatic monthly purchas...

Re: Times Car Share
Another advocate for Times Car Share, I used them a lot last year and it was 1) Always cheaper than regular rental such as Toyota rent-a-car (including factoring in the mileage charge, as for the regular companies you need to pay for petrol which is typically the same cost), 2) More flexible with us...

Re: Happy New Year! Any resolutions/goals?
Happy New Year! Good luck on your goals, I would love to see the high-level "annual net worth plan" in a blog, and hopefully we can all benefit from stealing some of the actions :D My goals this year are to 1) Improve my Japanese; after 2 years here I'm barely N4 as I rarely have opportuni...

Re: Welcome to the RetireJapan forum
>✔ Corporate DC plan maxed contributions and diversified allocations (iDeCo not allowed) Is it actually a thing that you can be denied/prevented from using iDeCo if you max out a company DC plan? I thought that your iDeCo contributions would be small, but 0 is a possibility as well? With my corpora...

Re: Automatic monthly investments through Rakuten
Point 1 - Rakuten CC and Rakuten bank are not directly related. Apply for the credit card still. Many members were denied for the bank but approved for the card. The card is very easy to get relative to other Japanese cards. Point 2 - SMBC seems to be listed as supported. Any reason to suspect it w...

Re: Welcome to the RetireJapan forum
Posting a big thank you to Ben, and the dozens of other posts I've read this past month as a lurker. With this site's help I've finally understood how DCs, NISAs, crypto, general investing and much more work in Japan. I've managed to set up most things and learnt a lot along the way. I still have lo...

Re: Automatic monthly investments through Rakuten
Maybe I should ask this in a separate SMBC Prestia Trust thread as it seems more specific to my bank, but I'll ask here first in case anyone has first hand experience. Is there a way to make automatic monthly investment with SMBC Prestia Trust bank? Pretty much every app (rakuten securities, paypay,...

Re: Ordinarily Resident of the UK
Also filling this out and I'll opt for "Ordinarily Resident - Yes" based on the advice in this thread. Couple questions: 1) For "Question 21 - 5 Volunteer Development Workers - What is your salary or wage?", as I'm not a volunteer dev worker can I leave this blank? 2) Can I enter...
