Re: Yen falling like a stone

Guys, last Friday the yen acted like the world was coming to an end, and I suspect it could weaken further given the BOJ said nothing to support the yen following its meeting. It’s certainly the weakest level by far since I came to Japan So I’d like to ask, does anyone feel they have words of wisdo...

Yes, that’s what I thought. Before I turned seishian I remember it was 99k a month.

Re: Social insurance potentially being added to financial income

Social insurance is capped out I think? There is a maximum anyone pays and someone earning 100 million/year will pay the same amount as someone earning 200 million/yen?

Re: Social insurance potentially being added to financial income

This is the unfortunate reality of living in Japan. The Governments fiscal situation is horrific, the stock of debt is terrifying and the demographics mean it’s going to get worse and worse. Japan seems to have a very strong socialist view on taxes where the rich get taxed hard to support everyone e...

Re: Does it make sense to continue with the same strategy with this JPY/USD rate?

I’m fairly agnostic about it as the majority of my assets and a decent portion of my income is outside of Japan. I wish I had not bought yen currency at 130 and 140 though! At least I managed to avoid repeating the mistake at 150. But I can see the pain for the majority of people in Japan with a yen...

Re: Does it make sense to continue with the same strategy with this JPY/USD rate?

But I don’t see any signs of a big policy change happening, on either side, yet. It is widely expected the BoJ will end NIRP and abandon YCC. It might happen next week. It might happen after the results of the next wage negotiations in April. It might happen in between or after.... FWIW Kishida sum...

Re: Selling a flat in the UK

You have to calculate the purchase price in yen and the sale
price in yen.

Maybe best to sell if when you don’t have jusho in Japan.

For cashlike positions? It is either this or a bank account, or bog standard JGBs
I prefer my cash in cash. For yen cash, just enough to survive for a few months, and then all other cash tucked away in currencies with a decent yield.

Dunno. Just wondering why others on here and elsewhere don’t go for JGBi…
Can’t speak for others but the returns are not attractive enough for me.
