Re: When to move away from an all-stocks approach to include bonds
I'm probably a couple of decades out (depending on how lazy I get) and I bought bonds this year. My current target allocation is 80-20. I'm going to see how that goes. We also have a substantial amount of cash though, which performs a similar role to bonds in providing liquidity and smoothing out s...

Re: Appliance repairs
Got an emergency message our 13 year old washing machine wouldn't drain. Got home and was warned a new one needed to be purchased THE NEXT DAY if I couldn't fix it that night. Did some searching in English and had hits in Arabic/Hindi etc...no dice. Searched in Japanese and found a guy who had a do...

Re: So what’s your retirement withdrawal strategy going to be?
I’m maxim out my ideco (68000 per month) and Tnisa but I still think that’s not enough to achieve FIRE. So the rest has to be invested on a taxable account, where I will need to pay 20.315% taxes every time you withdraw the 4%. The interesting thing is that none of the FIRE books I read in Japanese...

Re: When do we think we should do a Lump sum investment?
When you say “ I do an order on Rakuten every time the previous order clears”, how many days is the period between 2 orders? Depends on when weekends and holidays fall, and what time I put the order in. Seems like a couple of days to a week or so. I'm not really paying attention :? Here are some tr...

Re: When do we think we should do a Lump sum investment?
I have a large amount of cash at the moment, which I am DCAing into mutual funds. At the current rate of purchase (I do an order on Rakuten every time the previous order clears), it will take 15-20 months to be fully invested. I plan to do a lump sum investment if markets fall considerably/the yen ...

Re: So what’s your retirement withdrawal strategy going to be?
With the 4% rule, do you also have to have in mind that everytime you withdraw money, you pay 20,315% tax on capital gains? So instead of 4% rule, it would be a 5% withdraw, then pay the 20,315% on taxes, so you end up with a 4% on cash? Depends where you are taking the money from, I guess. If it i...

Re: So what’s your retirement withdrawal strategy going to be?
I’m still pretty far away from my retirement, but just for fun I’ve been looking at different retirement withdraw strategies. The 4% rule, buckets, fixed dollar (yen), etc. What are you guys thinking? Personally I’m leaning towards the “bucket” strategy, but we’ll see once 65 (or earlier) rolls aro...

Re: iDeCo Rakuten or SBI
Does it mean that if I go for the 楽天・全世界株式インデックス・ファンド, apart from the 0.212% fee, I will be paying other fees to cover the two kinds of withholding tax on foreign non-US stocks (country of origin + US taxes)? Or US taxes are included in that fee? Also, does this apply to ideco? For iDeCo, my unders...
