By coincidence, I have been searching for a similar charity recently and came across the NPO Florence. It looks good on paper but does anyone know more about them? Info in English:

Re: Sock options
My feet at 28.5cm are not quite as large as yours but I get all my socks from Uniqlo. Their online store offers 27-29cm options at their regular cheap prices as well as many always on sale in numerous colors and styles. Since I started wearing Heat Tech socks in winter, I can’t go back to regular on...

Re: Buying a house/apartment which is already 30+ years old?
Interesting comments being made but it’s not clear that all of them are based on personal experience. I lived in a house in the suburbs but I now live in a downtown condo. Obviously being downtown is infinitely more convenient, but it’s also infinitely more fun. More importantly, the brand new house...

Inheriting Aust property
Does anyone have experience with inheriting Australian property as a Japanese tax resident? While I don’t expect your specific details, I would appreciate you sharing the tax implications, especially on the Japanese side where capital gains tax and inheritance taxes are likely. I also understand tha...

Re: Do you have a retirement plan / project?
Did you read the article posted about South Korean retirees last week in the NYTimes? Apparently, a lot of old guys ride trains by themselves regularly because they are bored, lonely, poor and can ride them for free. The always illuminating comments section reveals that, just like in Japan, it is a ...

Re: Manshon add-ons and BIG furniture
If your windows aren’t double glazed, I would recommend getting them done before moving in and putting curtains up. We are very happy with the Lixil In Plus windows we put in, and government subsidies are still being offered I believe.

Re: What age did you..
Both of our children entered the same city-run 保育園 from about 4 months old. I must admit to initially being very hesitant to leave our first child - still a baby - with strangers all day but my wife could only get a semester off work (unpaid) and both of us were still trying to establish careers in ...
