Re: Brainstorm: all the ways to reduce taxes in Japan
What I've used before and which you didn't mention already: - Earthquake insurance - Life insurance - Supporting dependents (in or outside Japan, amount vary based on age of the dependent) - Medical expenses (above JPY 100k) - Losses carried forward for stocks (you do need to have losses from the pr...

Re: Options for payout of unused vacation when retiring
I have used Option A in the past, so it is definitely feasible... if the company agrees to it. It indeed had a favourable tax treatment, and no social insurance/pension deductions whatsoever. I have also used Option C in the past (different company), and social insurance was deducted as normal, but ...

Re: Ideco Contributions increase
Sadly you can’t do this. Well, you can, but if you go the ‘company retirement payment (taishokukin) → ideco lump sum’ route, you have to wait 19 years in order to take full advantage of the retirement deduction again. One alternative to reduce taxes is to get ideco as a mix of 1 time payment and the...

I don't know any in Western Kanagawa, but I just stopped by to say I can't believe the dog has more chance to find a home than you.

Re: Hello Work
It was changed to 2 months of wait (well, technically 7 days + 2 months) instead of the 3 months wait, as long as you don't use it more than twice within 5 years. From the 3rd time, the wait is 3 months (7 days + 3 months).

Re: Help! Can I delaying my first housing loan payment?
I was able to start my loan payment 2 months after having paid, and moved into, the property, so it should be possible to delay by a month or two. Worth checking with the bank, as they should allow you to choose among several repayment days when you sign the contract. I got to choose between making ...

Re: Assets in UK and Japan writing a will
I was gonna say… I’m definitely not in the Middle East so you must be thinking of somebody else ^^; As for the option C, i was not thinking of it as a gift from a sibling, but more as a repartition of assets based on a will. One gets the cash, the others get the house. That’s IF there is cash as par...

Re: Assets in UK and Japan writing a will
Would this be a viable 3rd option?
c) Get your parents to write in their will that house goes to your siblings, and you get cash equivalent to your share.

Keeping NISA when being posted overseas
Looks like more banks and brokers will be allowing it from now on?

Re: Moving from overseas to retire early in Japan
Nothing more than a personal opinion here (and my retirement plan, until plans change) and what I would (will?) do. I would go with option 2, north of Kyoto City, around Kokusaikaikan. It's green enough, away from the city center and the tourist crowd while still being within the city, and you can s...
