Re: Bitcoin ETF - tax loss offsetting?

Being able to buy this in a 特定口座 so that I don't have to deal with crypto taxes manually would be another great benefit. Let's see if this becomes accessible in Japan soon.

Re: SONY Bank - Time Deposits

Has anyone here done time deposits before and was happy with the result? I argued in my own blog before that they're usually not a good choice, but I'd love to learn whether there's actual benefits to it.

Re: Renaming RetireJapan

I agree with others that RetireJapan is already a fairly known thing among the english community in Japan. Most people that I talk with have heard of it already to some degree (kudos for that!). I recently struggled with the naming issue myself while starting my own newsletter/blog. I settled for Ye...

Re: What is going on with Interactive Brokers Japan? Any updates?

I wanna hijack this thread to ask about how y'all fund your IBs, since I got a friend who is saying that there is no reasonable way to do it at the moment. The Wise route charges you a lot in conversion fees (inside IB it appears to be no-fees for FX?), and the CitiBank route doesn't seem to work du...

Re: Interactive Brokers forced transition to IBSJ / good alternative?

What are some of the popular products that will no longer be supported by IBSJ? I've never used IB myself so I'm kind of curious about what's happening.

Re: Interest on splitting a payment for Rakuten CC

Yeah 2 instalments is free on Rakuten credit card HOWEVER many online shops/services don’t give you the option of 2 instalments, only from 3. Including Rakuten ichiba which is annoying. Can't you always change to 2 installments later in the card website? I never did it before, but I always see the ...

Re: Leaving Japan in 3 Years... Cash in NISA or wait?

Can't comment on if it's necessary to liquidate NISA or not (until now I assumed it works the same as IDECO, can leave it there but cannot add funds). If you do have to liquidate though, 3 years sounds like too many potentially missed gains. I do think that the main sentiment here will be to "h...

Re: Best budgeting app?

I've been happily using Moneyforward for a while now, it connects to most of my Japanese stuff, but nothing abroad. I don't think there's going to be a service that links to both Japanese and abroad accounts. I handle my abroad expenses as a manual cash wallet. I wonder if Money Tree is better than ...

Re: Which to sell?

We don't know the reason for the OP needing the 400k, but general advice is to invest only what you do not need for everyday life. An emergency fund for taking care of unexpected costs would negate the need for selling off anything, or borrowing money. True, but it may happen to us at some point re...

Re: Rakuten Securities - Adding spaces to your name / Register Japan Post Bank account

Can confirm that Yuucho Direct works even if names don't exactly match, I was in the same situation. Didn't have to deal with any documents thankfully. On a similar note, I wanted to connect my 楽天会員 with 楽天証券 to get the SPU points, and that failed because of name mismatch too. Turns out, you just ne...
