Re: What is your Savings Rate?
I save around 70% most months recently. Pre-COVID about 60%. It's ideal for us at the moment because we plan to buy a house this year (PR application result pending) so I am building up the down payment to improve our chances of a good house loan rate or getting a loan at all if PR is rejected. Wif...

What is your Savings Rate?
So we recently had a NET WORTH poll and another (which I can't remember for the life of me right now  ) but I'm curious to know what others' savings rates are. Mine tends to vary depending on the month as my income fluctuates but I believe my savings rate (savings as a percentage of your total...

Re: My Number Card expiry
Just had a quick check of my card. I noticed that the expiration date printed is when I turn 62 years old. Hmmm, coincidence?? I am, however, on a PR status so not really related to "expiring cards". Yes that makes sense. As a PR that expiration date should be your 10th birthday following...

Re: The joy of Money and Quality of Life
An interesting post topic this is. After reading all the responses, I've realized that I don't spend a lot on entertainment. I've always been a frugal (some might say "けち" )person. I try to take the family out once a month for a nice dinner. And we celebrate special days (birthdays, ...

Re: Pay off loan?
I will cast my vote for becoming debt free. I'd pay the loan off and then invest the leftovers. If my math is correct you'd still have 7.75 million yen, right? Any other opinions out in Forum land?

Re: Where to put my emergency fund
I agree with Adamu. It's insurance or as I call it my "stress less" fund. Just knowing it's there makes me feel relieved and I can better focus on investing. I've got my EF in a regular post office account and don't touch it. Unfortunately, it makes peanuts but it will always be there and ...

Re: UK/Japanese dual citizenship
Although not from the UK, this has always been a concern of mine. I had planned to have both my children (US and Japan dual citizens) just "choose" Japan and not give up their USA citizenship. I don't believe the USA forces us to choose a side. Only Japan has this stipulation. I could be w...

Re: Happy New Year! Any resolutions/goals?
All of the above written goals are excellent, I think. It's been a great year for me and the family. An abundance of work, good health and no real emergencies. Started to seriously invest in the market, began our Ideco plans and learned more about the projected numbers the wife and I need to hit for...

Re: Santa Claus rally -when will this end?
It's nuts. Last year, we hit our low FIRE number and I thought it would take till at least the end of next year to hit our more comfortable FIRE number. We passed that a few months ago and it is really just gravy and security padding now (until the crash). We could go for a fat FIRE but the way the...
