Re: Choosing between a life in Japan and Germany
A very tough question, indeed. Everyone has an opinion about the "best" place to live. Where do you really want to be? That is the million dollar question. There are many great points about Japan (safety, economic opportunities, food, different cultural experiences to be had) but also bad ...

Re: Providing funds for a teenager overseas
Thanks for the great information. I did a little reading on the English SMBC website. I was planning on posting a question related to the same topic. Not to derail the thread but I have some questions. My daughter is going to the UK for uni in September. 1. Would the Family Globalpass card work as ...

Re: Providing funds for a teenager overseas
When my son went abroad for a High School exchange, he used a service called NeoMoney, but I just found out they ceased operations in Sept 2021 ;-( I'm not selling anything. Just my personal view. On my recommendation, my wife's cousin opened a Prestia account with a Family GlobalPass card for her ...

Well, I am none of those! https://youtu.be/JlEGU2ypr1Q " For almost a half-century, value-investing icon Jeremy Grantham has been calling market bubbles. " The first line of the video description  An interesting video. Lots of doom & gloom predicted which should worry people. If ...

Re: What is your Savings Rate?
Wife is currently back in university, so with one income, we saved 52% of our post-tax income last year. Trying to tighten the belt a bit on several expenses this year to try and up that a bit, but there's only so much left to save without increasing income, which will come once my better half grad...

Re: What is your Savings Rate?
Percentage of gross (pre-tax) or net (post-tax)? And "savings" presumably includes investments? Personally, I prefer looking at it as a percentage of net, post-tax money. We all pay taxes, to differing degrees, but that's money out the door that we can't choose what to do with, so no poin...

Re: Dual citizen investing in Interactive brokers
I'm American and currently investing about 90% in VTI and 10% in BND (ETF bond fund). Am in the accumulation phase and planning to retire in 12 years or so. I don't know much about Interactive Brokers but if it's possible to open a US brokerage account I would recommend that. I've got an American ba...
