Re: Worth getting cancer coverage with mortgage life insurance?
It’s case by case. I would 1) take the insurance terms offered by bank 2) go to your insurance broker or any of the ones in a nearby shopping mall and get an offer to compare costs and benefits. What I would deem important to check is really the conditions after the one time payment. The bank’s int...

Re: Worth getting cancer coverage with mortgage life insurance?
Some things to consider: would it be cheaper to buy separately? How much is the higher rate going to cost you over the span of the mortgage? (Don't have any experience with this personally) It looks like it'll be about ¥14,000 a year, so not too expensive, although over 30 years it'll add up. I'm j...

Worth getting cancer coverage with mortgage life insurance?
Hi all, We're hoping to buy a cheap manshon in the near future and have applied for mortgages with a couple of banks. As most of you know, they seem to require you to get group life insurance when you buy a place and we're just wondering if we should go for the most basic insurance or a slightly mor...

Thanks, looks like they could be a good option too. Something to investigate at least.mighty58 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 9:40 am I've heard that SBJ Bank (a Korean bank) is also willing to consider non-PR foreigners. No idea how competitive the rates are, but might be worth a look.

Re: Tokyo Star Bank for non-PR mortgage?
I have heard Suruga Bank is also a "friendly" bank for foreigners without PR. I got my first mortgage with them. The interest rate was high, but hardly a down payment was needed. After I got my PR, I renewed the mortgage with another bank at a much more competitive rate. Suruga was also w...

Re: Tokyo Star Bank for non-PR mortgage?
I had a consultation with Tokyo Star Bank for a home loan when I was shopping around a few years ago. They wanted a 40% down payment and the interest rate they quoted me on the home loan was much higher than Prestia's offer. So I ended up going with Prestia which required 20% down and had a more co...

Tokyo Star Bank for non-PR mortgage?
My wife has been researching a bit about banks that grant mortgages to non-PR holders, and in addition to Shinsei and Prestia, she found that Tokyo Star Bank also provides this service. Does anyone have an account with this bank or have any insight into them? I'd never heard of them before. We'll be...

Very happy about this. It’s been overshadowed by the news of the new NISA, but certainly a step in the right direction.
