Re: YEN/USD rate change and your US$ held stocks
A little off topic but how do companies manage these large swings in currency exchanges, especially if they have foreign debt. Like Rakuten. They’ve got billions in USD debt due next year. These are massive swings in what they owe. Maybe a follow up question is what does a volatile currency say abou...

Re: Hedging against a stock market crash
This year is the first time in a long time, 20+ years I believe, that Japan has raised rates. The impacts to companies that have debt could take some time to come to fruition (or not). The nikkei may be in for an extended period of volatility. I found this https://indexes.nikkei.co.jp/en/nkave/image...

Re: Life in Japan
To each their own I believe. For years we’ve not paid more into the mortgage due to the low rate but circumstance encouraged us to pay it all off. It’s a very, very, very nice feeling not having any debt. Paying the mortgage off also allowed us to not pay a higher interest rate on a second mortgage ...

Re: Life in Japan
For our situation, buying a place accelerated our financial independence plans dramatically. We moved here with a pet and ended up paying a lot in rent to accommodate the pet. When we researched buying an apartment, we found while we’d take on low interest debt, our monthly costs for lodging dropped...

Re: Is the yen about to break the 150 threshold to the dollar?
I’d venture a yes to it moving past 150 but I no longer back my thoughts with a trade. I shorted the yen a few times via YCS in the past and while it was a good trade, I gained more than a few grey hairs due the anxiety. Currency trading is not for me. But watching the erosion is painful. It was 75 ...

Re: Future JPY/USD rates
I still don’t understand how Japan gets through this without blowing up.
Lose control of the yen, lose control of interest payments, lose confidence in the currency, etc. They’ve made it this far I suppose. I guess that’s why I’m here in a forum vs the hallowed halls of the BoJ.

Re: Future JPY/USD rates
If rates went up in Japan, how would that impact the payment of interest on debt? Since most JGBs are owned by the bank of Japan, would the impact be limited? I have to go look and see how other countries are managing this as there was crazy spending during Covid. I think if rates did go up here, so...

Re: Doing a Buffet
Why do a Buffet when you can do a Pelosi?
Use the appropriately named etf INSDR to trade like an American politician with access to insider information.
I’m not sure I’m saying this in jest or as an actual suggestion at this point lol!

Re: Future JPY/USD rates
Interesting this topic didn’t get revisited this fall/winter when the BOJ got involved in selling US treasuries to stop the devaluation of the yen. The BOJ was selling a pretty significant chunk of their reserves. I’ve no idea if they can/plan to replace that but this problem will re-appear when inf...
