Re: Simple Q&A - NISA
So, the inference I'm making is that if I sell within 5 years, I pay no taxes as such. After 5 year period, the entire portfolio if not extended into NISA for next period, then will be rolled into normal taxed account on which taxes will be applied. So, if someone wants to sell off everything, doin...

Re: Simple Q&A - NISA
Like can I withdraw them within 5 years period? You can sell a stock that you bought in a NISA at any time. What would be the taxes applied, charges at that time? None if it's within the 5 year period since you bought it, or you rolled over. Standard capital gains otherwise. In the event I leave Ja...

Re: Credit card - Is gold credit card necessary?
There is a thread on the Rakuten Gold card here https://www.retirejapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1271 From there premium seems to require 550,000 to be worth it. Hi Adamu! Thanks for the thread. I'll look into it and also my yearly calculations to see if I can go for premium card from norm...

Re: Credit card - Is gold credit card necessary?
I have the Prestia Gold card for free (I think) but only really use it as an ATM card. Rakuten just changed their credit card policy. Previously both Rakuten Gold and Premium had the 4x bonus for points on Rakuten but from the end of this March only Premium will have that 4x bonus. If you use Rakut...

Re: Credit card - Is gold credit card necessary?
Gold credit cards usually have higher limits, give more points/miles, and have better bundled insurance and lounge access, etc. If you don't value those things you probably don't need the card. I have found my credit card issuers have raised my limit regularly, particularly when I used the card a l...

Re: TransferWise Debit Card is out!
I was told by my accountant that I should not use Transferwise but do a proper wire transfer initiated by a Japanese bank. Not sure how hard and fast that rule is so if anyone has heard otherwise I would be keen to hear it. I would also like to learn if anybody has used Transferwise money transfer ...
