Re: Diversify away from the US?
Everytime I think about diversifying away from the US, I look at my emaxi slim emerging markets etf, sigh, then go back to investing into all country. As much as I want to believe that there will be a time soon where the US underperforms, the signs just aren't there yet. Maybe when blue chip compani...

Going through this with Rakuten card right now. If they force me to renew my residence card, I’m probably just gonna search for a new credit card…

Re: Which Internet Provider are you using
My landlord does not allow drilling into walls, which meant that even though NURO was okay with this, the second installation part is through another contractor which was not okay with this, so the whole sign up process and whatnot was aborted. Is there any provider that allows for internet with 1gb...

Re: Japan Crypto Exchanges
To respond to the original question, I use BitFlyer and haven't had any serious issues with them yet. I have an account with Binance but never used it since they are not regulated, and I only purchase ETH and BTC. Since you say you're into more speculative coins, BitFlyer is likely not going to be ...

Re: Movements in SPY seem to be very weakly tracked in eMaxi slim S&P500
Thank you for the links guys. I gave it a read and it seems that it's supposed to track the SPX very closely. Still a little uncertain because SPX is a lot higher today than it was on Jul 11. Here's my updated napkin math: JUL 11 SPX: 3854.43 TODAY SPX: 3936.69 % CHANGE: 2.13% EMaxi slim S&P on ...

Re: Movements in SPY seem to be very weakly tracked in eMaxi slim S&P500
Yeah I’m just being nit picky but if I really am losing 1-2% on every single investment then that could really add up. Maybe i need to take off my tin foil hat ;) > Not sure, but the eMaxis fund is not tracking the SPY ETF, it's tracking the S&P 500 index (including dividends), converted to yen ...

Movements in SPY seem to be very weakly tracked in eMaxi slim S&P500
I’ve suspected that I’m not getting the full picture of what’s going on, because there has been a pattern where even if SPY has big movements, the fund that I buy into doesn’t seem to track that, even if I account for the change in USD JPY. First some background: Fund: eMaxi slim s&p500 MER: 0.9...

Re: Sendai
Sendai might be the most comfortable city I've lived in to date, but my time here might be coming to an end this summer depending on the outcome of my job search. I really hope corona settles by April/May so I can at least try to enjoy Sendai more Oh hey this didn't age well. I landed a position an...

Re: Crypto trading platforms in Japan
Ah, I stand corrected! I'll edit my post. It took me anywhere between 1-2 weeks to sign up for 4 different exchanges (including KYC processing) so I assumed it was the norm.

Re: Crypto trading platforms in Japan
Cheapest fees is Kraken Most convenient is Bitflyer/Coincheck Most Japanese platforms have terrible spreads. (Edit: erased comment about KYC wait times) Also, please note that crypto will complicate your taxes quite a bit if you do lots of trading. There's software out there that tracks all your tra...
