Re: Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?
Hi Wales4rugbyWC19 With regards to NS & I, we had already opened a Premium Bond online each a few years ago with a small amount in the UK. So it was a just a change of address from UK to Japan, declare that we are resident for tax here and input My Number Card No. ( Online ) We’ve just opened Bo...

Re: Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?
Hi banders
HSBC accounts opened to transfer our monies from Barclays.
Paying in our UK Pensions.
Paying out a couple of direct debits.
Seems important to have a UK account when transferring monies to NS & I .
To use on occasion when we are in the UK.

Re: Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?
Following us receiving the account closure notification from Barclays and with info gleaned on this forum ( thank you all including @RetireJapan for this resource ), we made an impromptu trip to the UK to open a HSBC account using our Japanese address. Process took over an hour. Documentation used a...

Re: Old Car and Navi
With mobile reception pretty much everywhere in Japan I can't justify paying for an expensive car navi and map updates. I buy car audio units (no navigation) with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto which allows me to use google maps and other apps on my phone which then get displayed on the car audio...

Barclays have something similar based in the IOM I ...

Re: Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?
Thank you for the replies MacAddict as we are almost in the same position. :? You’re welcome to join in. BTW I stand corrected about when Barclays closing these accounts ( 2015 ). We prefer not to use an available UK address and as stated you have to be resident there. If not resident that could cre...

Barclays UK closing expat accounts ?
Recently we received a letter from our UK Barclays Bank saying that they will be closing all of our UK Bank Accounts because they are applying limitations to their services to customers with an address outside the UK . Apparently this has been happening to British expats UK Bank accounts since 2020....

Re: Permanent Resident Visa
I applied in Okayama for PR in early Oct 2020 and was granted it last week ( Dec 2020 ) Was told the process would take at least 6 months. Congratulations! That is incredibly quick :) Thank you in part to information gleaned from your forum prior to me applying. :D Also the Okayama office w...

Re: Permanent Resident Visa
Congratulations on your PR. I am about to take the plunge as well and from my reading of it income does not matter if you are the spouse of a Japanese national, though being a person of good character does, so if you have paid your tax/pension/health late you are in trouble. It’s OK to have been in...
