Re: japan's indebtedness
This conversation has made me think of a couple things I haven't really(and should have) put more thought into. While I do intend to retire in japan, what if I don't? How do we transfer assets out of our japanese broker to one wherever we're going(I understand the need to pay exit tax if over the li...

Re: Buy a new or used car.
I watched the same kinds of videos expecting to leverage finance into a better price etc(then just pay up the whole thing immediately), but was surprised when they never actually brought up finance. Perhaps they don't have much luck getting loans for foreigners through, I'm confused about it to this...

Re: How are you doing financially after corona?
Working in consumer facing tech/entertainment, corona was probably good for the company. I also bought a house and car, but they're both well within means and thus easily manageable recurring expenses so I'd say overall things are good. Only real concern now is whether they end remote work or not. I...

Re: Splitting investments over multiple accounts and brokerage insurance?
I recalled a term here - 分別管理 - refering to segregation of customer assets from company assets, and there are many Google hits about this. Here are some (smartphone) links from Rakuten itself, but I think the info is trustworthy and you can find similar from other reputable sources: https://www.rak...

Splitting investments over multiple accounts and brokerage insurance?
So my partner was worried about rakutens future with their mobile division being generally a bit of a mess. I do think she's probably overthinking it and assume that rakuten shoken would be well insulated from the mobile division, but it did get me to thinking that like I don't want all my eggs in o...

Re: When did you break your indexing rule and how did it turn out?
Would you consider buying an index that is somehow not total market nor cap-weighted to be breaking the "indexing rule"? (i.e., not single stocks, but other indexes) I suppose I could have been clearer. Anything can be indexed, and what I'm referring to is just broad indexes covering enti...

Re: When did you break your indexing rule and how did it turn out?
I bought some Bitcoin in 2011 that if I had held onto all of it, would still be worth more than all the stocks I've ever bought. Hah, I order some tesla stock some time in 2019 and then later in the day cancelled the order because it was way too speculative. I still think that was the right...

When did you break your indexing rule and how did it turn out?
We all know that indexing is the way forward for long term gains. I've always believed in it and the logical side of my brain has kept me mostly in line. But I think most of us also have that bit in their head that's wanting to give a go to single stocks, and I know a few people have mentioned a sma...

Re: eMaxis Slim All Country vs Developed Countries vs...
I'm not talking about timing the market based on day to day performance. More like, next January I'll compare the returns between all country and developed countries and say all country is doing way better, then I might put in a little money. Then if the trend continues, then I'll keep buying it. T...

Re: Doing a Buffet
Buffet had very different reasons to allocate in this manner, it cannot be applied 1 to 1 for a retail investor. He is very clear that he recommends investor use passive and not mirror his investments. He would almost assuredly tell you to invest in all in a s&p500 fund... Just to expand on thi...
