Re: UK Pension & Voluntary Payments Questions
Never had a problem with my direct debit. I get a letter every February/March that details payments to be taken for the forthcoming year. I chose “twice a year” payments. Re: Brainstorm: all the ways to reduce taxes in Japan
If you are self-employed: Remember your pension payments and health insurance payments act like tax deductible expenses. There are lots of expenses that you can legitimately claim that will reduce taxes, like a portion of your utilities and rent if you work from home Doing the blue form tax return c...

Opening picture
Hi Ben
I shared the RetireJapan site with a friend over Line today. The thumbnail picture that comes up is of you outside a building that looks like a supermarket. No offence, but perhaps a better picture to illustrate what RetireJapan is about could be useful…?
Best wishes
Gareth

Re: Cancelled English Camp, where's my refund?
I’d get a journalist involved. Impending bad publicity could definitely speed up the refund.

Re: Paying taxes on UK savings?
7. In June 2023, I moved the majority of my UK savings into a Skipton International fixed rate bond account, which had an 18 month maturity. How did you do this? I used to have an account with Skipton but they refused to change my address to my address in Japan and refused to let me buy new product...

I presume there’s also no deduction possible for U.K. student loan repayments?

Why do I keep getting one yen?
I have my NISA and iDeCo with Monex. I only invest in emaxi-slim all country and have nothing in my taxable account. For the past few months, I've been receiving a deposit of one yen. 銘柄 - 日興MRF 口座区分 - 特定 商品区分 - 投信 取引区分預り区分 - 再投資(累投)普通預り 受渡日 - 2024/10/31 数量単価 - 1口10,000 受渡金額 - 1円 What is this? Why a...

Being stopped by the police
I was ID’d by the police today while walking home from my local railway station. The policewoman was polite and talked about checks happening at the moment because of the election. Fortunately, soon after I was stopped, an old lady approached and asked the policewoman for help and I just walked off ...
