Re: Selling a gain to awash a tax loss
https://www.retirejapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=27422#p27422 According to the man at the Tax Soudan Center Telephone Hot line in English at 03-3821-9070, there is no such rule in Japan. (In US, it's 30 days...) You can sell the shares of Company A in the morning, realize the tax loss, or gain, fo...

Re: Selling a gain to awash a tax loss
This was discussed in another thread the other day. See my comment here, and subsequent responses https://www.retirejapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=26840&hilit=tax+loss+harvest#p26840 Thank you Tkydon. I read though the link but it didn't really answer my question. I already have a tax loss and...

Selling a gain to awash a tax loss
Hi guys, I always appreciate the knowledge you all share. I thought this question would have been asked before but I couldn't find any hits on my searches so I apologise if it has been answered already. I'm carrying a loss on an off-shore investment fund from 3 years ago. I want to sell another simi...

Re: S&P 500 dividends v Dave Ramsey et al 10%
Tax on Foreign Sourced Dividends does not come under Capital Gains, but under Dividend Income. For Foreign Sourced Dividends, you can only select Separate Taxation Method and so the tax rate is a flat 20.315%. (You cannot use the Dividend Allowance) You can claim a Foreign Tax Credit for any Tax wi...

Re: S&P 500 dividends v Dave Ramsey et al 10%
Not everyone is seeking companies that pay dividends. Personally, while I'm earning income, dividends would be just extra income I'd need to pay tax on so I'd rather defer that to when I sell the stock ideally at a time when my annual income is lower than usual, like after retirement to help reduce ...

Re: Shinsei's Step-Up Program status post Monex transfer (and how to get it if you don't already)
I liked them when they offered free ATM withdrawals. Is there any real benefit to this gold/platinum status? I like to hold the platinum status just for the free international transfer once a month. Once your accounts abroad are registered, it's dead easy to use. Registering the accounts though was...

Re: looking for article about 4% swr in Japanese
I want to send links to my fiancee about why the 4% swr work and other basics of FIRE. She can read English but she'll do much better reading directly in Japanese. Any good website to explain FIRE concepts in Japanese? Hi, I'm a bit late noticing this. Actually like you, I have been trying to educa...

Re: Taxes on Gain and Dividend???
I believe the tax rate is currently 30% on dividends held by non US residents. It changed early last year.

... For within Japan, I just buy indexed ETFs within my iDeCo & NISA accounts. ... Are you US? If you are, I think the advice is to only buy stocks within those accounts. (edit for typo) Captainspoke, Thanks for the reply. No, I'm not from the US, but been investing there since 2005 and just de...

Re: Best stockbroker for non-Japanese?
I guess my approach is a little different to what others have posted but it might be of help. For within Japan, I just buy indexed ETFs within my iDeCo & NISA accounts. While I'm interested in Japanese stock, I feel the cost of entry is too high. In saying that, if they were to lower the entry (...
