Moving overseas when owning a house in Japan
Hi guys My wife (Japanese) and I (foreigner) are considering moving overseas for a while for work reasons. No idea about whether/ when we'll be back. We bought a house in Tokyo just over 2 years ago. I'm the only one on the title and the mortgage (wife is guarantor). I don't have PR and I'm not plan...

Medical Expenses Deduction for double income couple
Hi guys My wife and I both work and our salaries are roughly identical. We're trying to have kids and have been spending scary amounts of money on IVF treatment. We're now making preparations for our tax returns and were wondering how to use the medical expenses deduction. I understand that one spou...

Re: IDECO allocation Monex
Thanks guys - I've got my bonds covered somewhere else. I will go 100% equity for IDECO given it's a tax free account.

IDECO allocation Monex
Hi guys
I'm opening my IDECO account and need to chose a fund allocation.
Do I just need to follow the basic rule of balancing the portfolio between equity/bonds? Or do you just put 100% into eMaxis Slim All Countries?
Cheers

Re: Accumulating ETFs
This is so confusing. I've asked the tax accountant who is currently preparing my tax return whether one would have to include in their tax return dividends from accumulating ETFs and her answer is yes... Although I am not sure she understands what a accumulating ETF is. I tried to describe as best ...

Re: Accumulating ETFs
These are not taxed in Japan until you sell the shares. It is one of the reasons they get recommended by Japanese financial advisors on Youtube videos. For US investors this is one of the characteristics of a PFIC which needs to be accounted for when filing US taxes so you are required to calculate...

iDeCo and moving overseas
Hi, I am considering opening an iDeCo account for myself and one for my wife (she's Japanese). We are in our early 40's and we are both employees contributing to the national pension scheme. I read on Retire Japan that iDeCo is only recommended if you intend to be living in Japan until retirement (6...
