Re: Capital gains tax when selling
Why would you pay capital gains tax if it is in your NISA account? You can sell it and buy the slim fund without any taxes. Of course, you would eat into your annual limit of 1.2 million if you have a regular NISA. I already maxed out my contributions for the year... If your capital gains mean that...

Re: Capital gains tax when selling
Looks like the capital gains tax for securities is a flat rate. From the link you provided: Capital gains from sales of certain securities (including shares/equity interest in corporations, warrant bonds, etc.) are taxed separately from other sources of income at a flat rate of 20.315% (i.e. 15.315%...

Capital gains tax when selling
Hi everyone, I noticed that earlier this year I bought eMAXIS 先進国株式インデックス instead of eMAXIS slim 先進国株式インデックス. I think that what I'm currently holding is basically the same as the slim version, but with higher fees (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm holding this both in my NISA account and 特定口座, and woul...

Re: Making an etf \ mutual fund portfolio
Another somewhat related question, in case a broker collapses, what happens to the money in the account? Investments held by brokers are supposed to be ring-fenced and kept separate from the broker's own money. In the extremely unlikely event of a broker bankruptcy, you would get your investments b...

Making an etf \ mutual fund portfolio
Hi everyone! I've opened an account with Rakuten, and looking to create a balanced etf / mutual fund portfolio. Judging from this great post, it seems that Japanese mutual funds are superior to etfs. As the post is a bit old, I just wanted to make sure - are mutual funds still the way to go? Specifi...

The funds are available through most brokers and in many NISA and iDeCo accounts. It is easy to set regular automated purchases, etc.

Re: Alternative etfs
Thank you StockBeard for the detailed reply! I also enjoyed your blog :) I checked with my friend and he said the "value" factor isn't really critical, and I can just buy similar Vanguard etfs instead. Could you perhaps suggest similar ETFs (perhaps with lower fees) available in Japan. Als...
