Stock picking
I'm curious what industries people are buying at the moment, when they pick stocks. (This post is not about diversification). Everything is so high at the moment, it is hard to know which industries are still on an upward swing. I'm still buying metals, chemicals, electrics, and chip industry stocks...

Trading account options as a non-resident
Does anyone know about the possibility of having a stock account with Rakuten, or SBI, or any other trading houses as a non-resident? I understand I would not be eligible for NISA as a non-resident, but I'm looking for just a regular trading account that doesn't require me to prove my residency with...

Re: NISA rollover - confused
Thank you for the answer RetireJapan. Do you know why the allowable amount is only 600000, instead of the usual 1.2? Again, this is my 6th year having a NISA.

NISA rollover - confused
Hello, before I try calling SBI in my bad Japanese, I thought I would ask here. I have had my NISA for 5 years. I thought I did a rollover, but maybe I just rolled over one stock I had since 2017 (I remember submitting something to do with a rollover). Now my account is showing NISA/TSUMITATE NISA (...

Re: Best stockbroker for non-Japanese?
I have had both Rakuten and SBI accounts for many years - with NISA account on SBI and Junior NISA on Rakuten. I find the SBI interface so much easier to navigate and use. SBI is easy - the google translate app to English works really well when I'm feeling too lazy to read the Japanese. If you know ...

Re: Stocks investment outside of NISA
Hello Kiyora, I am not sure I'm clear what you are asking exactly, but I also have an SBI account (NISA) and I also put in more than the allowed NISA allowance. So I just buy stocks or funds in the non-NISA account that is already existing within that same SBI account. Instead of clicking on NISA in...
If you buy a fund representing all of the world's top companies, if you sell it, what do you buy?
I don't really buy any ETFs. Oh wait, I do have some Topix30. But generally only individual stocks. Right now I am watching Softbank fall, and wondering when might be a good time to pi...

Re: Hot Stock Market here in Japan
Emaxis slim - By asking if RetireJapan was taking any profits on that stock, I meant cashing in on some of the growth on that particular stock and re-invest in something else. I'm more of an active trader and regularly take profits and use the profits to buy other stocks, but I understand from his f...

Re: Hot Stock Market here in Japan
RetireJapan - Awesome growth - good for you! Have you taken any profits? Renewable energy sector is likely only going to continue climbing up, as countries try to achieve carbon neutrality by future dates. I will add that one to my watchlist. Thanks.

Re: Hot Stock Market here in Japan
Zeroshiki - Sorry to hear that. I've done well with a couple supermarket chains. A couple food stocks I'm watching: Ajinomoto (2802) has done a great run. I was watching it but didn't buy (darn). But the technicals still look good (see tradingview.com for easy-to-read technicals). I'm wondering abou...
