I've been doing like this for years.
The point is to have a coin purse with 2 compartments : 50/100/500 yen compartment
and 1/5/10 yen compartment.
This way, you can identify the coins by size and color pretty fast..

Anybody using MUFG's "Main Bank Plus" ?
Hi there I have a dormant account with MUFG that I don't use much because of the standard fees, but they seem to have revised them a bit, as per the following links. I guess competition is a good thing. https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/a0b0b1d0993e92d488ade45aad85876c627fb6d1 https://manetatsu.com/...

Re: Apartment/house hunting/discrimination
I second to what Concerned and Ori said. It is also my experience that there are RE agents who try to give good service and make everyone happy (landlord, renter, agent), and there are, let's say, less professional people. It's all business : A good agent will negotiate a lower rent on your behalf i...

Re: declaring foreign assets on Japanese tax return
I've researched this topic recently. Here is what I found, I hope it helps This is quite old, but it's explained in plain English, and I believe the content hasn't changed that much : https://www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/jp/Documents/human-capital/ges/jp-ges-foreign-asset-reporting-require...

Re: Decided to buy a place - any tips on what to do/what NOT to do?
@cowcamo You're welcome. I see you've done your homework. Sorry my words were too vague : by "checking the neighbors", I meant "talk to them to see what kind of people they are". You're going to be stuck with them as neighbors for a long long time, so it might be good to get a ge...

Re: Modification of the Inheritance Tax for Foreigners / Likelihood?
Wow. That is big news. According to the following articles (in Japanese), it seems quite likely. https://www.souzoku-hyogo.com/column/3575/ https://dejima-souzoku.com/2020/10/14/%E6%B5%B7%E5%A4%96%E8%B3%87%E7%94%A3%E3%81%AE%E7%9B%B8%E7%B6%9A%E7%A8%8E%E6%B8%9B%E5%85%8D%EF%BD%A4%E6%94%BF%E5%BA%9C%E6%A...

Re: Decided to buy a place - any tips on what to do/what NOT to do?
One of our relatives is a carpenter/house builder, and here is what he told us to do before deciding on a place. - Check the Hazard Map of the city. Usually it's available online. It will tell you, for example, how high the water may rise in case of floods. It may be 30 cm in some places, 5 m in oth...

Re: Auto Insurance?
Plenty of good advice here. Especially this one : Definitely get unlimited cover for the other party. The minimal cost versus the life-changing consequences of a high cost claim make this a no-brainer in my opinion: insurance exists to cover the costs that would damage you Personally, I wouldn't cha...

Re: Advice for buying a car? (Toyota Sienta)
Hi there Here is my humble opinion after 3 purchases over the last 15 years Looking at Toyota resellers for the car in my region, prices seem to vary from 40 man to 180 man. Although the prices seem to be loosely related to the age of the car and its mileage, it doesn't always feel clear cut. Are th...

Great savings over fifteen years or so, haircut can be done at home anytime. -Q...
