even if you show them a screenshot, there is nothing there that identifies you… Just to post the below MoneySavingExpert advice on this point: We'd urge you to take a picture of the form you filled in, and a screen grab of the request sent screen, then email it to yourself, so you've a contemporane...

Re: Message for UK pension enthusiasts…
So is this of no help to people who have a letter, but have been unable to break through the musak of the Pension Service helpline or get their calls dropped repeatedly? The wording of the callback form suggests it is not limited to those making 'first contact' with the department: Complete this fo...

Re: Message for UK pension enthusiasts…
It is also unclear how long people WOULD have to pay up if they followed the above procedure… Communication and clarity do not seem to be their strong suits. However, it *seems* to be that *if* people are accepted to backpay voluntary NICs, HMRC ordinarily send a letter with an 8-week deadline from...

Re: UK Pension & Voluntary Payments Questions
Thanks for your clear and interesting account of interactions with HMRC on this. (Ditto for other recent posters.) Very useful to have up-to-date accounts. And good luck getting it all sorted. Side note - the reason why I'm faffing about with this so close to the deadline is because I read that 3 q...

Re: My case (financial/work situation)
Blimey, that is reassuring. I ran the numbers with ChatGPT on just getting the minimum 10 years uk for both of us plus the fuka kokumin in Japan, and it looks like approx 3 million yen a year, which is only a bit less than our total salaries combined now as it is. So full uk pension would definitel...

Re: My case (financial/work situation)
Does your wife have (1) a period of 3yrs of continuous UK residency in her past (even in childhood), and (2) a national insurance number (NINO)*? If yes and yes, she would be eligible to make voluntary Class 3 contributions despite no UK work history. Could be something to consider for the future, ...

Re: My case (financial/work situation)
We just moved in to a small rental bungalow that has a large field so I’m gardening and growing stuff in that (gardening and composting, all the stuff is my obsession!). The rent is 72,000 a month. We don’t really go out, we basically never have holidays, I’ve been back to the uk once in the 5 year...

The Institute of Fiscal Studies has produced a report entitled The Future of the State Pension in 2023: https://ifs.org.uk/publications/future-state-pension An excerpt is below: [...] Our view is that the state pension is not in need of wholesale change. Indeed, its structure has much to commend it....

Re: Still not sold on the UK state pension
So I too, don’t know how I would be viewed in class 2 or class 3 terms… Your chances of Class 2 look more hopeful, but not a given, in my opinion. Explaining why will make this post somewhat lengthy... Immediately before that, I was working at a full-time job in the UK for four months. That didn’t ...
