Re: Insurance for freelancers
Yes. I always thought insurance for freelancers was about covering health related issues. I'm not even sure how income protection would work in my case because income varies so much month by month.

My health insurance covers me in case of hospitalization/serious injury or sickness. They way I'm thinking at the moment is having as big of an emergency fund as poss...

Re: Children's Accounts - Deposits and Gift Tax
There's quite a bit of NTA paranoia on that subreddit. Seems everyone thinks NTA is checking everything everyone does.

Re: Bank recommendations for small business (GK)
I set up a Rakuten business account. It's free. But I'm a freelancer so not sure if it'd be the same for a GK. Tbh, I don't use that account anymore cos transfers aren't free. Also, as a freelancer isn't any need for a business account. So I set up a second account with SMBC instead — get free trans...

Re: Resigning from seishain position, going freelance
international clients, I will not have to bother with either of those? I was under the impression that I at least would have to charge them sales tax. Yes, generally speaking you don't charge sales tax to overseas companies even if you have revenue over 10mil in a year. There are exceptions but whe...

Are your clients based in Japan or overseas? That affects whether you might need to charge sales tax and whether you need to bother with インボイス制度

Re: Gift Tax question
How does cash for buying a house or land affect gift tax? Is it untaxable? Different rate?ClearAsMud wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 7:03 am
1) I'd say yes, if you're not planning to use the money to buy a house or land for one.

Re: Bank recommendations for small business (GK)
I just want the payment process to be as worry-free for my clients as I can possibly make it for them. Wise for transfers into a USD virtual account and Stripe for CC payments is smooth and worry-free. I only do Wise at the moment but if a client was determined to pay by CC, I'd use CC. I don't min...
