Which MasterCard to accumulate MileagePlus miles, for say150万円 annual spending?
Dear Milers, This query is about Japan issued credit cards. Now that the combined annual cost of Saison MileagePlus card and the Mile-up membership is being doubled to 14300 yen, and has effectively reached the gold card membership fee range, which gold card do you think is suitable to accumulate Mi...

Re: Want to accumulate MileagePlus Miles (by UNITED AIR) frugally
United sometimes has mile sales, where you can get them for up to half off. At the larger end of the scale, this can be a good deal if you are going to redeem for business class or first, or for last minute travel, or for domestic Japanese flights on ANA (via Star Alliance). Sign up to their mailin...

Re: Pending- Law to revoke the permanent residency status of foreign nationals who fail to pay taxes
 I was thinking about updating/adding to the RJ wiki for naturalization. But I could take a shot at writing a post too. (English is not my first language though) And I was told that MoJ takes about 12-18 months to go through the process and get to the decision. (I went there twice and met two ...

Re: What are you doing to keep your SMBC Prestia Gold status?
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. sutebayashi, thank you for bringing me out of slumber. I have had gold status for around 25 years, and have 40+ accounts registered with them where I can just remit without thinking, so this setup saves me time. I wanted to take the easy way out but now I ...

Re: What are you doing to keep your SMBC Prestia Gold status?
I am not a US person. I remit to my family outside Japan and also deposit USD cheques to my account free of charge (which I don’t know who else does free). So, want to maintain the gold status if possible. I already have mortgage with another bank, so I was thinking of buying their mutual fund if th...

What are you doing to keep your SMBC Prestia Gold status?
Dear all, Current SMBC Prestia account holders who do not have minimum 3 million yen in wealth management balance (higher fee paying, I guess) with them by 29th September will lose the Gold status. So, what are you doing, if anything, to keep your SMBC Prestia Gold status? poster Deep Blue mentioned...

How does someone become an emeritus professor(名誉教授)at your university?
My question is to the many academics here. I thought "Professor Emeritus" is an honorary title conferred after retirement as a full professor for a long period of distinguished service at the same university, but a certain professor at my university was recommended and approved by the riji...

Re: Income tax deduction for dependents not residing in Japan
and there is an unwritten expectation that the total amount remitted will be greater than the amount of the deduction, so more than Y380,000 per dependent What happens if the remitted amount is less than Y380,000 per dependent? Can't we then benefit by deducting taxes for the amount remitted for th...

Re: Prestia Gold
Prestia will be using the account balances as of 29 Sept 2023 to decide who will lose the gold status. So if anyone with gold status now can come up with anything worthwhile to invest 3 million yen with them, please inform. Otherwise, I may have to move my account elsewhere, it seems.

Re: Prestia Gold
I received a letter from SMBC Trust bank that suggests they are in the process of devaluing their current Prestia gold member benefits in the name of service renewal. Seems one has to also have 3 million yen in average monthly wealth management balance as a new requirement in addition to the old req...
