Pretty good this week ๐
Half-way through April: Golden Week is a welcome sight as it approaches!
Here are this week’s links:
An entrepreneurial millionaire interview.
Writing, briefly. Paul Graham on writing.
Is college worth the cost? I guess it depends, eh?
A down to earth millionaire interview.
The disturbing high modernism of Silicon Valley. What motivates Facebook?
Why are we surprised when would be early retirees have second thoughts? Just because you are FI doesn’t mean you have to RE…
The greatest secret between debt and wealth. Debt is bad, mkay?
โHigh numbers of elderly Japanese women will soon live in poverty. Pretty grim stuff.
Short and sweet. I really enjoyed these snippets from Jonathan Clements.
Your margin of safety has gone missing. Or perhaps not? Does investing globally help?
โA late starter millionaire interview.
Are travel loans a good idea? Not likely ๐
Recommendations vs. guidelines. Really interesting insight from medicine. I can already see how to apply it to personal finance and teaching.
Some things I am pretty sure about. Another great list from Morgan Housel.
How to pick a career (that actually fits you). A new Wait But Why post! I understand why they only publish one every eighteen months or so now -they are approximately six million words long…
How to stop procrastinating using the 70% rule. I am paralysed by procrastination, so always happy to read about it… wait a minute.
These ain’t yo mama’s frugality tips. They seem perfectly reasonable though.
How much I know. If you know how bad you are, maybe you’re not all that bad…
Cracking the wallet. Apparently there is such a thing as being too frugal ๐
What did you think? Anything good in there?
I have seen how unfair the system would be to my wife if we ever had a divorce. I have been the breadwinner for years, and she sacrificed her career* to raise the kids, making no income in the process.
I’ve been aggressively trying to rebalance our finances to give her some safety net.
* It was the choice that made sense financially, but still…
My wife and I have separate retirement, investment, and bank accounts. She’s still behind right now, but should overtake me within the next decade ๐
Great list as always!
I like the frugality tips. Save money by doing intense exercise! Iโm addicted to cycling and running. Made a small investment to get going-cycling is expensive! But have more energy to make more money, rarely get sick and donโt binge drink at the pub anymore.
Short and sweet snippets bang on!
I often wonder if university is worth it.
I started my working life with loads of debt. Have savings plan to pay for my childrenโs university fees if they take that path which I feel great about.
