Pre-GW edition
It’s been a good month for RetireJapan. We wrote a guest article for the AllAboutJapan site (a quick guide to investing in Japan) and hopefully we’ll have another cool announcement next week 🙂
Here are this week’s links:
- Don’t know if ‘opt’ is the correct word here: Retiring late: More Japanese opt to prolong employment
- Isolation is a scary prospect: How sharing can bring Japan’s elderly and youth together
- I think about blocks of 22 years, which is very similar: Why 8,000 Is The Most Important Number For Your Retirement Plan
- Interesting video about breaking into buildings: I’ll let myself in
- My plan for ‘found money’ is to just invest it all: Use These 10 Behavioral Finance Tips to Super Charge Your Finances
- This sounds really similar to my uni job: The Job That Will Let You Do Whatever You Want in a Swedish Train Station, Forever
- EQ beats IQ: 5 SKILLS TO HELP YOU DEVELOP EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
- Planning to do this at some point: How big a battery would I need?
- Pretty much agree with this video about the nutcase that owns APA Hotels
- Another reason to get PR/naturalise: visa rules and regulations can be changed any time. Thanks to Brexit, I’ve got 30 days to leave my home in France
- A quick review: Millionaire Teacher by Andrew Hallam
- Speaking of Andrew Hallam: how to make a million dollars by listening to one lecture… Andrew Hallam’s Money Talks: International Community School of Istanbul
- Life doesn’t care about your excuses. Do or do not: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE EXTREME TO BE EXTRAORDINARY
- Atul Gawande is one of my favourite writers: The Bell Curve -What happens when patients find out how good their doctors really are?
What do you think? Anything good in there? I’d probably go with #14 this time.
I’ve managed to start reading again. Here are some of the books I got through this week:
- Shadow and Bone (The Grisha Book 1). This was pretty b-grade young adult fantasy. Was able to finish it but won’t be reading the rest of the series.
- The Deep Blue Goodbye. Enjoyed this hard boiled detective-ish story by the guy that wrote Cape Fear. There are 21 other books in the series which should keep me busy for a while 🙂
- Orphan X. This is a bit Jason Bourne-y, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Reading the second one now.
It’s not from the numbered list, but the reading I like is in your intro:
“We wrote a guest article for the AllAboutJapan site (a quick guide to investing in Japan)…”
Both your introduction to investing, and the AllAboutJapan site itself. The latter has a lot of refreshing reading about Hokkaido. Thanks!
Glad you like it 😀
If all goes well we might have semi-regular guest posts over there -could be a win-win.
Liked your interview on Patrick Sherriff’s website. I think you explained things clearly and simply (including what this site is about). If all my friends weren’t already annoyed to the core with my constant talks about financial independence, I would definitely recommend that interview as a gateway drug to this site 🙂
He’s a good interviewer, eh? You can tell he used to be a journalist 🙂
