This one grew on me
In a nutshell, I didn’t like this book much at first but it grew on me. The book is highly US-centric in terms of the resources it describes, but the principles are universal. I would say ‘Money’ is not a must-have, but it is worth reading.
My first impression of this book wasn’t great. Lots of references to buying things: cars, boats, houses. Lots of over-the-top statements (anyone can become rich, you can retire with a seven-figure portfolio, etc.). However, the more I read the more I liked it.
Robbins’ principles are sound. He also describes several interesting options for US investors. Perhaps most importantly, he talks about the psychology of money and how to maximise its utility.
If you are an investing book junkie like me, or a fan of Tony Robbins, you’ll probably enjoy this book. If not, then read the books on the Resources page first.
Thank you for this review of Tony Robbins’ book. I know his name for sure as a self-help guide/coach.
I’m glad he’s talking about money because most Americans (you mentioned his book is very US-centric) aren’t saving enough or any money. However, I was skeptical of his book from the beginning since he’s not a financial expert.
Please read this review: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/tony-robbins-doesnt-quite-master-the-game-of-money-in-his-new-book-2014-11-25
And it’s important for everyone to know the background of any author, including scandals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Robbins
I did not read his book and don’t intend to. I don’t think most people need a book about not making money their master. They need a book that hits them over the head, takes 10% of their salary, and puts it in a good mutual fund. THAT is the book someone needs to create.
In the meantime, I think people who are not financial experts should not write books on finance. That’s just my own personal opinion.
Now if Peter Lynch wrote a book in 2015, I’d buy that in a heartbeat, and I’ll bet it would be filled with good concrete advice for investing.
Thanks again for the review of this book.

Hi Keith
Thanks for posting that! I’ve read other reviews of the book (especially Barry Ritholz’s here: http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2014/11/tony-robbins-is-a-brilliant-self-help-guru-but-a-terrible-financial-advisor/).
To be fair to Robbins, he never claims to know about money himself, just to have interviewed lots of people who do.
It’s a readable book, and if it gets someone interested in taking control of their future then I think it could be a force for good. Not the first book I would point someone to, but not harmful either.
I still owe you that bonds post!
