… what would you do?

I’m nowhere near being in a position where I don’t have to do anything, but I think about it sometimes.

It’s one of the deepest philosophical questions, after all: “what are we here for?”

Right now I work too much. I’ve been doing 2-3 jobs at the same time for the last ten years and have lost work-life balance to some extent.

In fact, on the rare days that I do have off, I don’t really know what to do with myself.

This bodes ill for retirement.

I enjoy my work, but not enough for it to be a calling. Clearly I am going to have to find some other interests 🙂

How about you? What would you do if you didn’t have to work?

  1. If I didn’t have to work, I’d play tennis a lot more. I’d take road trips with my family. I’d spend more time in the garden. And I’d volunteer to teach adults how to read at the Adult Literacy League because I can’t think of a more powerful way to “pay it back” than to teach an adult how to read. I can’t imagine being around all these sticks and figures and not being able to decode them. That’s my plan…..

    1. Sounds great, Keith. Social contribution, exercise, relationships.
All the good stuff that enhances quality of life 🙂

  2. I already have a lot of things in mind:
    – be more available for my children (be the one walking them to school, etc…)
    – Work on my side projects and hobbies (haven’t spent nearly enough time on my hobbies: gaming, maintaining and improving my website, software development)
    – Spend more time with my wife (watching TV, walk together in the streets, hunting down for the best ice cream in the city,…)
I pretty much have a full lifetime already filled with stuff I can hardly wait to do when I reach FI 🙂

    1. That’s a huge one. My granddaughter is 4 and I want to spend more time with her before it is too late.
