All Very Different

There are three main ways to get rich.

1. Luck

Unearned riches, from family or a lucky windfall. Lottery winners, people who get large inheritances, etc.

Lucky wealth often ends badly, as people don’t know how to manage their new money and don’t have any way of replacing it if they spend it down.

2. Large income

People with large incomes are rich, but unless they save a lot of it and manage their finances well their wealth is precarious. Mike Tyson is probably the best example of this, ending up bankrupt after earning hundreds of millions of dollars.

You can also easily find stories about people who ended up unable to support their lifestyle after losing well-paid jobs.

3. Saving

People who build up wealth over the long term through saving and investing are probably in the safest position. They made the money, and they know how to manage it.

The best thing is that saving and investing your way to wealth doesn’t require luck or a large salary. It just needs good financial habits and time.

  1. Saving has been so far the most efficient way for me to get there. Making more money is a nice way to accelerate the process, but it’s not the solution.
